GTA6 Album Confirmed: 34 Original Songs
Rockstar has confirmed a 34-track original album for GTA6, out November 19 — separate from the game’s radio, and discs ship a day later.
Rockstar announced Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album on 17 September, produced with Atlantic Records: 34 original tracks, released on 19 November, the same day as the game. Six are already streaming — Yung Lean’s “That’s It” with Future and Metro Boomin, Travis Scott’s “RHYNO”, “Sexy Magic” by CA7RIEL and Paco Amoroso with PinkPantheress, Fred again.. and Etienne de Crécy, Morgan Wallen’s “Last Thing You Need”, Rauw Alejandro’s “Macacoa 2000”, and Keith Richards’ “Bright Lights, Big City”. The other 28 are unnamed. This is a Newswire announcement with the studio’s own name on it rather than a roster reconstructed from social posts, which matters, because the past few days of GTA6 music coverage have been almost entirely the second kind.
It also settles a question the artwork drop of 15 September left open. Rockstar never published a list of who was involved in that campaign, so the line-up had to be assembled from who posted what, and the tally came out at nine or ten depending on whether Fred again.. counted — his image appeared on a team-run account rather than his own page. The album answers that: Fred again.. is credited on a released single, so the ten-name version was right. Then it complicates the method anyway. “Sexy Magic” also credits Etienne de Crécy, who does not appear in any tally of the teaser we could find. Posting artwork was never a proxy for the roster in either direction. Someone on the album did not post it, and at least one person who reposted was amplifying somebody else’s image.
The album is not the soundtrack, and Rockstar’s own wording keeps the two apart. The announcement says more detail on the game’s music is coming, “including the dynamic score and the next evolution of in-game radio.” Those are three separate things: a commercial album of newly written songs, the adaptive score that runs underneath missions, and the radio stations that carry licensed music. The tracks heard in the August Extended Look — Elderbrook and Bob Moses, Aluna and Jayda G, Kodak Black, Birdman and Lil Wayne, Chimbala and Omega — belong to the third category and are unaffected by any of this. So does the datamined station list that has circulated for weeks. Treating the six singles as a radio line-up is a category error, and it is the error most summaries of yesterday’s news make.
The physical editions make for an odd picture. There is a $19.98 CD, a $49.98 double vinyl on transparent magenta discs with a blue splatter finish, and a $124.98 limited pressing whose records are filled with blue liquid — all pre-orderable now, all listed to ship on 20 November. Additional colourways are going to Blood Records, Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Target and Urban Outfitters. The game that arrives the day before the records do is digital-only: Rockstar’s own store says the retail box holds a download code and no disc, with pre-loading from 12 November. So the priciest piece of GTA6 launch merchandise costs more than the $99.99 Ultimate Edition of the game, and the only physical object on that shelf is a record. Whether that reads as irony or as two unrelated businesses, it is a statement about how Rockstar is treating 19 November — as an event with merchandise attached rather than only a software release.
Three practical points for anyone buying. The digital album arrives on 19 November but the discs ship from the 20th, so a pre-order does not put a record in your hands on launch day; several outlets folded those dates together, and at least one dated the album itself to 20 November. The 34 figure is a track count, not an artist count — one write-up described the record as featuring “34 artists,” which overstates a roster assembled from eleven named credits across six songs. And the album is a separate purchase from the game, so none of it changes what is in the box on 19 November.
