GTA6 System Requirements & Platform Specs

GTA6 system requirements and platform specs

Grand Theft Auto VI launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026. A PC version has not been officially announced but is expected within 12-18 months after the console release. This guide covers console specifications and predicted PC requirements based on the RAGE 9 engine and Rockstar's historical patterns.

What are the GTA6 system requirements?

GTA6 requires a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. It does not run on PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch. There are no PC requirements to publish, because Rockstar has not announced a PC version. Rockstar has also not published a file size or storage requirement for any platform yet. Console versions run at 30 FPS at launch, and a 60 FPS mode has not been confirmed.

PlayStation 5 Specifications

The PS5 version of GTA6 will take full advantage of the console's hardware:

  • CPU — AMD Zen 2 8-core (3.5 GHz variable frequency)
  • GPU — Custom RDNA 2, 36 CU at 2.23 GHz (10.28 TFLOPS)
  • Memory — 16 GB GDDR6
  • Storage — 825 GB custom NVMe SSD (5.5 GB/s raw, 8-9 GB/s compressed)
  • Resolution — Up to 4K (likely with dynamic resolution scaling)
  • Frame rate — 30 FPS at launch; a 60 FPS mode is not confirmed

The PS5's SSD is particularly important for GTA6's large open world, enabling fast travel and seamless region transitions with no loading screens.

Xbox Series X Specifications

  • CPU — AMD Zen 2 8-core (3.8 GHz variable frequency)
  • GPU — Custom RDNA 2, 52 CU at 1.825 GHz (12 TFLOPS)
  • Memory — 16 GB GDDR6
  • Storage — 1 TB custom NVMe SSD (2.4 GB/s raw, 4.8 GB/s compressed)
  • Resolution — Up to 4K (likely with dynamic resolution scaling)
  • Frame rate — 30 FPS at launch; a 60 FPS mode is not confirmed

Xbox Series S

The Xbox Series S is a less powerful console, and GTA6's performance on it may be compromised:

  • CPU — AMD Zen 2 8-core (3.6 GHz)
  • GPU — Custom RDNA 2, 20 CU at 1.565 GHz (4 TFLOPS)
  • Memory — 10 GB GDDR6
  • Storage — 512 GB custom NVMe SSD
  • Resolution — Likely 1080p or 1440p with reduced settings

Predicted PC Requirements

Rockstar has not announced a PC version or PC system requirements. However, based on the RAGE 9 engine's capabilities, the scope of the open world, and Rockstar's historical PC port patterns, we can estimate likely requirements:

Estimated Minimum (PC)

  • OS — Windows 10/11 64-bit
  • CPU — Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600
  • GPU — NVIDIA GTX 1660 or AMD RX 5600 XT
  • RAM — 16 GB
  • Storage — 150 GB SSD (NVMe recommended)
  • DirectX — Version 12

Estimated Recommended (PC)

  • OS — Windows 11 64-bit
  • CPU — Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
  • GPU — NVIDIA RTX 3070 or AMD RX 6800
  • RAM — 32 GB
  • Storage — 150 GB NVMe SSD
  • DirectX — Version 12 with hardware ray tracing support

Estimated Ultra (PC, 4K 60 FPS with ray tracing)

  • CPU — Intel Core i7-13700K or AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • GPU — NVIDIA RTX 4080 or AMD RX 7900 XTX
  • RAM — 32 GB DDR5
  • Storage — 150 GB NVMe SSD (PCIe 4.0+)

How much storage does GTA6 need?

Rockstar has not published an official file size or storage requirement for GTA6. Community and press estimates put the console install in the 150–200 GB range, but that is not a confirmed figure. Rockstar must submit the real number to Sony and Microsoft before pre-loading opens on November 12, 2026, so the official size should appear on the PS5 and Xbox store listings in the weeks before that date.

For context on how big that is: GTA5 launched at around 65 GB on PS4 and grew past 100 GB with GTA Online updates, while Red Dead Redemption 2 shipped at roughly 100 GB. A base PS5 has about 667 GB of usable space, and an Xbox Series S has around 364 GB — so on a Series S with a normal game library, GTA6 alone could consume a third to half of the drive. Clearing space or adding an NVMe SSD before November is worth doing either way.

Does GTA6 have a disc version?

No. The physical edition of GTA6 is a box containing a one-time download code, not a game disc. There is nothing to insert — every copy, physical or digital, must be downloaded in full.

This was confirmed in Take-Two's pre-order announcement alongside the November 12 pre-load date, and it has been defended publicly by Take-Two's leadership. In practice it means a retail box gives you no install advantage: you still spend the same bandwidth and the same wait. A disc-drive PS5 is therefore not required for GTA6, and the cheaper digital PS5 runs the game identically.

Will GTA6 run at 60 FPS?

Not at launch. Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson has said the console versions are running at 30 FPS and that the studio is not ready to guarantee a 60 FPS performance mode.

That makes GTA6 unusual for a 2026 release, where 60 FPS performance modes are close to standard on PS5 and Xbox Series X. The Extended Look was captured on a base PS5 and presented at 30 FPS, and the closing card identified the hardware only as "PS5" with no Pro designation. Whether a 60 FPS mode arrives via patch — or on PS5 Pro specifically — has not been announced.

PC Release Timeline Prediction

Based on Rockstar's historical patterns:

  • GTA5 — PC version arrived 18 months after console launch (September 2013 consoles, April 2015 PC)
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 — PC version arrived 13 months after console launch (October 2018 consoles, November 2019 PC)

Based on this pattern, a GTA6 PC version is expected in late 2027 or early 2028. The PC version typically includes enhanced graphics settings, ray tracing support, and mod support.

Will GTA6 Support PS4 or Xbox One?

No. GTA6 is built specifically for current-generation hardware. The RAGE 9 engine's features — particularly the crowd density, real-time reflections, and large open world — require the CPU and SSD speeds of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. PS4 and Xbox One cannot meet these requirements.
