Game Overview
What is GTA6?
Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA6) is the upcoming open-world action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games. It is the seventh main entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, and the first since GTA5 in 2013 — making it one of the most anticipated entertainment releases in history. GTA6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC version expected to follow.
Set in the fictional state of Leonida — a sprawling recreation of Florida — the game features Vice City as its centerpiece metropolis, alongside port towns, wetlands, tropical islands, and rural areas. This is the largest open-world map ever created by Rockstar, dwarfing GTA5's San Andreas and Red Dead Redemption 2's map combined.
For the first time in series history, GTA6 features a female protagonist. Players control Lucia and her partner Jason, a couple whose criminal partnership and Bonnie-and-Clyde-style relationship drives the narrative. The dual protagonist system allows players to switch between the two, each with unique skills, perspectives, and mission lines.
Gameplay Features
GTA6 introduces significant upgrades across every core system. The game runs on Rockstar's all-new RAGE 9 engine, which delivers photorealistic lighting with dynamic global illumination, volumetric fog, and real-time reflections. Water rendering reaches new heights with physically accurate wave simulation, making Vice City's beaches and the Leonida wetlands look stunningly real.
Crowd density and NPC behavior represent a massive leap forward. Trailer footage shows packed beaches, bustling nightlife districts, and busy highways with hundreds of individually-animated NPCs going about their daily routines. NPCs react dynamically to weather, time of day, and player actions in ways never seen before in the series.
Vehicle physics have been overhauled with detailed collision deformation, realistic handling models, and an expanded roster of cars, motorcycles, boats, aircraft, and specialized vehicles for different terrains. The weapon system returns with a redesigned weapon wheel, improved combat feel, and a variety of firearms, melee weapons, and throwables.
Other confirmed features include hunting in Mount Kalaga, kayaking through wetlands, deep character customization, and a dynamic weather system that includes Florida-style hurricanes. The game world changes in real-time, with day-night cycles and weather affecting gameplay, NPC behavior, and available activities.
Main Characters
Lucia Caminos

The World of Leonida
GTA6's map covers the entire fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida. The state is divided into multiple distinct regions, each with its own ecosystem, architecture, and atmosphere:
- Vice City — A neon-soaked metropolis modeled after Miami, featuring Art Deco architecture, beachfront nightlife, and dense urban streets.
- Port Gellhorn — An industrial port town with a gritty, working-class atmosphere and cargo shipping operations.
- Leonida Keys — A chain of tropical islands inspired by the Florida Keys, connected by causeway bridges.
- Mount Kalaga — A forested wilderness area where hunting and off-road activities take place.
- Everglades-inspired Wetlands — Swampy marshlands navigable by airboat, home to alligators and exotic wildlife.
A state-level highway system connects all regions. Players can drive from Vice City's neon skyline to remote swamp wetlands in a seamless open world — no loading screens between regions. The diverse terrain means different vehicles excel in different environments, from sports cars in the city to airboats in the swamps.
