GTA6 Pre-Orders Surge 436% on Netflix

Market intelligence firm Sensor Tower estimates that GTA6 pre-orders rose 436% on August 27, 2026 — the day Rockstar premiered its 26-minute Extended Look on Netflix — compared with the previous day. The momentum carried into August 28, with two-day pre-order activity running 572% above the average of the preceding 30 days.
The platform split is stark. PlayStation pre-orders jumped 606% on August 27 while Xbox Series X|S rose 127%. PlayStation has held the lead for the entire period Sensor Tower has been tracking, which began June 24, and now accounts for roughly 77% of total spend — about 3.51 million units. Cumulative pre-orders sit at approximately 4.55 million copies, translating to around $446 million in revenue, with some tracking updates putting the range at 4.55 to 4.86 million units and $446 to $476 million.
These are estimates built from a proprietary panel and data science models, not confirmed sales. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has published an official pre-order figure; Strauss Zelnick has only described pre-orders as "exceptional." Treat the numbers as directional.
The Netflix gambit clearly worked on the attention side as well. The Extended Look reached number one on Netflix's top 10 movies list and pulled an estimated 31.1 million views across the weekend, while the Netflix app itself climbed to 35th on the US App Store — up 61 places in 24 hours from a 30-day average rank of 76. Rockstar took criticism for locking the footage behind a six-hour Netflix exclusivity window before it reached YouTube, but the trade bought access to an audience well outside the usual gaming outlets.
The context matters: Rockstar had published no new gameplay since Trailer 2 in May 2025. A large number of players were demonstrably waiting to see the game actually run before committing money, and the Extended Look converted that hesitation in a single weekend.
