GTA6 Pre-Orders: 89% Are the $100 Edition

Sensor Tower puts early GTA6 pre-orders near 5.28 million, with almost nine in ten buyers choosing the $99.99 Ultimate Edition.

Two months before launch the shape of GTA6’s early demand is coming into focus, and the most striking part is not the volume. Sensor Tower’s estimate as of September 8, 2026 puts cumulative pre-orders at about 5.28 million copies and roughly $516 million in revenue, an increase of some 350,000 units in a single week. The platform split is lopsided: PlayStation accounts for about 4.06 million copies and $397 million, roughly 77% of the total, against 1.21 million copies and $119 million on Xbox Series X|S. That is up from the approximately 4.55 million the same tracker estimated a week after the Extended Look premiered.

The edition mix is the real anomaly. Of about 4.3 million tracked pre-orders, 89% were for the $99.99 Ultimate Edition rather than the $79.99 standard version. The split barely varies by platform — 90% on Xbox, 88.5% on PlayStation. Karl Kontus, senior vice president and general manager of Video Game Insights at Sensor Tower, said a premium edition typically takes 10% to 20% of pre-orders and that even 50% would be considered very high. “I have never seen a 90 percent premium share before,” he said.

Take-Two’s chief executive has been careful about what that means. Strauss Zelnick has called pre-orders “exceptional” and said they vastly beat internal forecasts, but he declined to publish figures and warned against reading them as a sales prediction. His argument is that demand may be pulled forward rather than expanded — buyers who would have purchased on launch day simply committing earlier. “I remind people we simply don’t know what the demand curve will look like because this has never happened,” he said, adding that releasing pre-order numbers risked creating misleading expectations among investors.

That distinction between a surge and a pull-forward is the part worth holding onto. A record pre-order book is consistent with a record launch, and it is equally consistent with a slightly smaller launch than the pre-orders imply, if the same buyers have merely moved earlier. Sensor Tower expects the Ultimate Edition’s share to drift toward something closer to even as more casual buyers arrive nearer release.

There is a detail that makes the premium share stranger than it first appears. The usual carrot for a deluxe edition is early access — Starfield’s premium tier offered up to five days, Diablo IV’s four. GTA6’s Ultimate Edition appears to include none; everyone gets the game at the same time. It adds exclusive shops, vehicles, weapons, cosmetics and two mission strands, and standard buyers can upgrade after launch for the same $20 difference, which removes any deadline from the decision. A near-90% take-up on a bundle with no early-access incentive and no closing window reads best as early-adopter bias rather than a verdict on the extras.

All of it remains estimate rather than disclosure. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has published an official pre-order figure, and the company has not confirmed the edition percentages. Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with digital pre-loading from November 12.
