What Sony’s GTA6 Page Says, Line by Line

Sony’s GTA6 listing has six compatibility lines. Two answer what a pre-order buyer asks: how the Pro changes the game, and whether PS Plus is needed.

The PlayStation 5 Pro is the console this launch is being sold with, and on 12 and 13 October it was the subject of a fresh round of shortage reporting: out of stock at the main American channels, trading above $1,100 on resale listings, and carrying a September memo to distribution partners warning that supply constraints run “through early 2027 at the earliest” — reported by the German outlet PlayFront and relayed since, with no public confirmation of that timeline from Sony. Every version of the story assumes a buyer is upgrading for Grand Theft Auto VI. This site noted on 10 October that the thing to watch was a platform page that had not been published. One has been.

PlayStation’s own product page for the game, read on 13 October, carries a compatibility block of six lines. In the order the page renders them: “In-game purchases optional”, “Offline play enabled”, “1 player”, “Remote Play supported”, “Vibration function and trigger effect supported (DualSense wireless controller)”, and “PS5 Pro Enhanced”. The page’s own notice data writes the second line differently — “Offline play only” — which describes the same position in different words. Either way, the page is not saying the game requires a connection. What matters more is what is absent: across the whole document the string “Online play” occurs zero times, and the only appearance of “PS Plus” is a link in the site’s footer. Sony’s compatibility notices carry no online-play line and no subscription line for this game.

That absence is countable rather than atmospheric because the same storefront lists this publisher’s previous two games, and both fill those lines in. Grand Theft Auto V’s current PlayStation listing reads “PS Plus required for online play”, “Supports up to 30 online players with PS Plus”, “In-game purchases optional”, “Online play required” — and adds that cloud streaming is “supported only with Premium subscription”. Red Dead Redemption 2 reads “Online play optional”, against “Supports up to 32 online players with PS Plus”. Three Rockstar games on one store: two describe online play and attach a subscription to it, and the one arriving on 19 November describes neither. Whichever way the wording lands, the newest entry occupies the value the other two leave empty.

This is the second register to say it. The same site’s reading of the ESRB register on 2 October found the same shape there: the game’s interactive elements carry In-Game Purchases and no “Users Interact” marker, where all three GTA V records carry both. Stated plainly, because it limits what the agreement is worth: both of these are fields the publisher fills in itself, so this is one account given twice rather than two witnesses. What it does settle for a buyer on 19 November is a cost, and it is readable off a document rather than inferred. On PlayStation, nothing in the listing attaches a subscription to this game, while the listing for the previous entry in the same franchise does. The $79.99 edition is the whole entry cost on that platform. It is also a description of the product on sale rather than of the franchise: no online mode for GTA VI has been announced, and none is listed.

Which leaves the last line of the block, and the only official statement either company has made about the Pro build: two words, with no number behind them. Sony’s page does not say what the enhancement consists of — resolution, frame rate or ray tracing — and Rockstar has not published a figure either. Read on 10 October, Rockstar’s own site carries the strings “PS5 Pro” and “PlayStation 5 Pro” zero times across its main, music and media sections, and the only artefact the campaign has ever labelled by platform is the 27 August Extended Look, captioned “Captured entirely from in-game footage on the PlayStation 5” — the base console. The 30 frames per second that circulates in coverage is not in the company’s own documents this site has read; the 7 October transcript contains no frame-rate figure and no 60 as a target. So a console that has been reported at $899.99, up $200 from its 2024 launch price, is being bought for this game on a badge whose criteria are unpublished, while the publisher’s own capture note names the cheaper machine.

What would settle it is one of two things, and neither exists yet: a published frame-rate or resolution figure for the Pro, or a capture label that names that machine — the same two documents the campaign has declined to produce for either console. Until one appears, the upgrade rests on the badge and on the relayed judgement of Digital Foundry, quoted in the current coverage, that a 60 fps mode is unlikely for a game it describes as CPU-bound, alongside its view that sharper image reconstruction and ray-traced reflections are the plausible gains. That is a real improvement offered as an opinion rather than a specification. The one line on the subject that is fully readable today says Pro Enhanced and stops there, and the buyer-relevant line is the one the page does not have at all.
