The account that flooded the internet with GTA6 footage promoted a memecoin the whole time, then cashed out roughly $250,000 and disappeared.

The week before Rockstar's Extended Look, an account calling itself Cyberleek dumped a steady stream of GTA6 gameplay clips across forums and social platforms, showing Jason and Lucia moving through Vice City. Rockstar responded on August 26 with a statement calling the leaks "heartbreaking for our team" while confirming development was "nearly there," and Take-Two escalated quickly — subpoenas to Microsoft and Discord in the Southern District of New York on August 20, followed by DMCA subpoenas aimed at X and YouTube.

Throughout the leak campaign, the account repeatedly promoted its own crypto memecoin. That detail led many observers to suspect the motive was never ideological opposition to Rockstar or Take-Two but something more prosaic. Sure enough, within days of the official reveal — which made the leaked footage far less valuable — Cyberleek cashed out roughly $250,000 and vanished.

The practical takeaway for anyone following the game: the leaked footage was real, and Rockstar's own statement effectively confirmed it. The person distributing it, however, appears to have been running a pump-and-dump with GTA6 as the marketing funnel. With the official Extended Look published and the leaker gone, the remaining run-up to November 19, 2026 should be entirely Rockstar-controlled.
